PLANTS and pond life are set to thrive in a new wetland being created at Golborne High School.
The project is being brought to life thanks to GoaLCo, The Golborne and Lowton Cooperative Learning Partnership.
Alison Gormally, Senior Deputy Head at Golborne High School, said: “This is a really exciting scheme that will provide an opportunity for pupils and the wider community to learn more about the natural world right on their doorstep.
"It’s a fantastic example of what we can achieve when we work together with partner organisations.”
Pete Burt, Managing Director of WLCT, said: “We gave some of the pupils at Golborne a tour of the wetland at Three Sisters which inspired them to create a wetland space at the school.
"We’re hoping to have some interesting species on site, including the great crested newt, and are also planning to install a bird hide for visitors to use. This is a great way to teach pupils about environment and sustainability.”
Leisure trust WLCT, working on behalf of Wigan Council, and national engineering company Murphy are bringing the project to life which will run over the school summer holidays.
