HIGH flying students from Fred Longworth were celebrating after a triumph of A* and A GCSE results after a hard year of revision.

Twins Olivia and Liam, from Tyldesley, were in the A team after sweeping 10 A* and A's a piece.

The talented 16-year-olds are both going to Winstanley College to further their academic minds.

Liam, is going to study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics in the hope of becoming an Actuary and Olivia wants to study Philosophy and Sociology and go down a journalist career path.

The Twins mum Yvonne Carrick, aged 48, who used to be an administrator at the school said: "We are so overwhelmed. We are over the moon.

"We knew they were going to do well because they had put so much hard work in. They had been revising for months and months.

"It has set them up well for Winstanley college and I want to thank the school for all their hard work and support."

Another student who achieved perfection was Lucy Betts who achieved 11 A* and will be joining Olivia and Liam at Winstanley College to study Biology, Chemistry and Art and either English Literature or History.

The 16-year-old school leaver said: "I want to go into something to do with science because it is my favourite subject."

Her mum Sam Betts, of Astley said: "She has done absolutely amazing.

"She has worked so hard and we were worried that she was going to be disappointed so we are so pleased at her results."

Katie Hetherington achieved 10 A* and one A in statistics, which she took last year.

Going on to study Maths, Chemistry, Biology and French at Eccles College Katie want's to study medicine at university to become a doctor.

The 16-year-old from Worsley said: "I have loved it here, it has been great.

"Year 10 pupils should just take year 11 as it comes because it goes so quickly.

"I loved all the teachers here and will miss them so much."
