A woman was pulled from a canal in Leigh after falling into the water last night.
Fire crews rescued the woman, believed to be in her late 60s, from the banks of Pennington Brook near Winmarleigh Gardens just after 8.30pm yesterday.
A ladder was used to scale the 10 foot drop from the roadside to the bank in order to rescue the woman, who was fully clothed but was found without her shoes.
She was said to be conscious but cold when the fire crews reached her on the bank side.
Police, who were also at the scene, called the North West Ambulance Service and paramedics treated the woman before taking her to the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary Wigan.
