PAINT, crayons and glitter were at the ready as schoolchildren got involved in the Leigh Journal birthday celebrations.

Pupils from Newton Westpark Primary School and Westleigh St Paul’s CE Primary School showed off their creative skills to make posters and cards in celebration of the 140th anniversary.
Students from Newton Westpark made cards decorated with a mocked up newspaper page and sketches while Ben Packham and Josh Hunt made a paper birthday cake decorated with old pictures of Leigh.

Meanwhile, pupils from Westleigh St Paul’s created posters decorated with hand drawn balloons and using old newspaper clippings. Year one also designed a huge card decorated with their own pictures.
