AN elderly man had to be cut from his car after crashing through a fence and into a garden.

The 73-year-old man crashed through a garden fence at 11.10am in Cranworth Avenue, Astley, and went through two gardens before stopping in a third.

It is believed that the man, who was driving a grey Vauxhall Astra, was taken ill at the wheel.

The man was trapped in his car and firefighters from Leigh fire station worked to free him.

He was assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital for checks after suffering cuts to his face, but his condition is not said to be serious.
