A MAN whose body was found in a canal in Wigan yesterday has been named as missing Jeffrey Bridge from Leigh.

Mr Bridge, 51, had last been seen on December 29 2015, at Wigan Wellbeing and Resilience Centre on Charles Street, Leigh.

Police launched an appeal for information on his whereabouts after becoming increasingly concerned for his safety.

They said he often used the canal towpath to travel between Wigan and Leigh.

Police were called to the Leeds, Liverpool canal by Dover Lock pub, off Warrington Road, in Abram Wigan at around 11am on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "There are no suspicious circumstances and a file has been prepared for the coroner."

Mr Bridge's family have been informed.

Bolton Coroner's Court said that no inquest date has been set.
