MEN in Leigh are being encouraged to 'trim down ad shape up'.

ABL Health runs a free Trim Down Shape Up service that has been commissioned by the council.

More than 20 men signed up for the service when the Trim Down Shape Up team recently pitched up in Leigh Spinning Gate Shopping Centre as part of National Obesity Awareness Week – and all other men with a body mass index between 25 and 39,9 are invited to follow suit.

Jason Ashton, assistant project lead for Trim Down Shape Up, said: “People really engaged with our message that getting fitter and losing weight can be fun, interesting and enjoyable.

“More than 20 new clients signed up, which was absolutely fantastic."

The over 18s programme includes sessions of circuit training, football, dodgeball, touch rugby and other team sports.

Professor Kate Arder, the council’s director of public health, said: “The service is part of the wider ‘Lose Weight Feel Great’ pathway, which offers a range of support options for local people to take charge of their health."
