WIGAN and Leigh College is set to provide hundreds of job opportunities to fill region’s skills gaps after receiving new funding.

The college has successfully secured additional government funding to train hundreds of apprentices into industries across the north west.

The college is one of the biggest in the region, as well as the largest apprenticeship provider, with 2,000 apprentices recruited in roles such as social media and accounting.

To recruit additional apprentices into employment the college is inviting school leavers, those already with jobs and those seeking employment to its Parson’s Walk Centre for an apprenticeship open event on Wednesday, February 24, between 3.30pm and 8pm.

The event will enable employers to showcase the opportunities available within industries and for potential apprentices to undertake CV writing and interview technique skills workshops.

Principal Michael Sheehan said: “The apprenticeships are set to provide local young people and adults with the opportunity to gain industry recognised qualifications while working for a reputable organisation in the borough.

“Employers are also set to reap the rewards of the scheme, which has already provided hundreds of businesses with a skilled and loyal workforce for the future.

“Organisations can also receive up to £6,500 in grants by recruiting just one apprentice.”
