AN Atherton-based charity which supports dementia sufferers and their families has been boosted by a £250 donation from Wigan Masonic Golfing Society.

Dementia Buddy is part of the Good Deeds Trust and was set up by councillors Mark and Karen Aldred to help those affected by dementia and raise awareness of the condition.

The charity runs a dementia cafe at Atherton Library and offers devices that are widely recognised by the police and emergency services which informs people that the person wearing it suffers from dementia.

Wigan Masonic Golfing Society raises money for charities from their meetings and was more than happy to help such a good cause.

George Seddon, chairman of the society, said: “We were looking for a local charity to donate to and dementia affects so many people these days.

“This means that awareness is important and getting people to be aware of these badges would help.”

Cllr Mark Aldred said: “We have been so lucky to have been given so much support from many organisations to help us keep things going.

“As a group we are so grateful for all the donations we have received, which have also included much needed crockery and tea pots for our dementia café.

“We would like to thank everyone that has donated to Dementia Duddy and the Good Deeds Trust. It is much appreciated.”

The dementia café at Atherton Library is open from 10am to noon on the third Friday of every month.
