ATHERTON CC are finally beginning to show some form in a season that has struggled to get going through spells of wet weather.

Playing away at Blackrod, the First XI recorded a resounding victory in which the star of the show was undoubtedly professional, Chris Street.

Captain Bannister won the toss and had no hesitation in deciding to bat. He opened the innings with Birch and soon the runs began to flow.

When Bannister fell to Tong for 18 Street took up the reins and began to dominate the bowling. His first 50 came-up in just 61 balls but more was to follow. The Australian went on to score 134 not out in what must rank as the innings of the season so far.

He stroked 20 fours and a six in that score and finished with an amazing 15 consecutive scoring shots.

Atherton finished with a towering 237 from their 48 overs, with runs also coming from Birch (39), Nuttall and Marsh. Blackrod's best bowler was Tong, who finished with 3 for 40.

When the home side went in to bat they were to face two in-form bowlers in Dixon and Street.

The pacy pair ripped through the upper order and it was only Ingram who managed to make it into double figures.

Dixon finished with 3 for 26 and Street 4 for 26 while the tail was well and truly mopped-up by Baines, who finished with the incredible figures of three overs, two maidens and three wickets for just one run. Blackrod were dismissed for 56.

Despite being dismissed for just 129, Atherton seconds came up with a victory over Blackrod by bowling the visitors out for 60 (Yeomans 4-21, Hudspith 4-10).

The following day the seconds marched on in the cup by beating Spring View.
