A LEIGH mum is embracing a business idea that was given a big thumbs up by Deborah Meaden on Dragon's Den to help cash-strapped parents in the town.

Michelle Hindley is launching mum2mum market in Leigh to provide an opportunity for parents to bag some bargains and/or make money selling on their outgrown baby clothes and equipment to other families.

The nearly new sales have been a big hit in London and the South East and franchisee Michelle is hoping for similar success in her hometown.

She said: "I heard about mum2mum market through a friend and thought it was a brilliant idea.

"I am so excited to be giving local parents the opportunity to buy great quality second-hand goods or make some cash from their outgrown children’s stuff."

All goods for sale at mum2mum market must be in excellent condition and sellers keep 100 per cent of their proceeds from the day.

Novice sellers are coached prior to the event, with expert tips and pricing guides helping to maximise their sales.

Buyers can make significant savings via mum2mum market, with large items like designer prams and large toys selling for about a third of the retail price and baby and children’s clothes starting at just 50p.

With at least 20 mums selling at every mum2mum market, there is always an extensive choice of items for sale, including cots, toys, books, baby equipment and clothes from newborn to age six.

Mum2mum market was started in 2011 by Cath Harrop Having bought and sold on eBay and at car boot sales, the mum-of-two realised there was a need for a way to being parents together so that they could sell to each other face-to-face.

She presented her mum2mum market idea on popular BBC Two programme Dragon’s Den and the business has gone from strength to strength since Deborah Meaden made an investment.

Cath says: "I found eBay frustrating as a buyer and expensive as a seller, and buying a pushchair that turned up filthy and broken was the final straw.

"I was convinced there must be a better way and mum2mum market was born."

Before introducing the mum2mum market concept to Leigh, Michelle is holding a sale at Newchurch Parish Hall on Common Lane in Culcheth, Warrington, from noon to 2pm on Sunday, June 5.

Admission is £2 on the door, with children getting in for free.

Adults can go in for the last half-an-hour for free.
