RESIDENTS aged 'one to 101' celebrated the Queen's official 90th birthday on Sunday with an 'amazing' street party in Leigh.

More than a hundred people enjoyed the festivities on Harrier Close, which included a disco, DJ, races, competitions, quizzes, piñatas and face painting.

Children dressed up like Buckingham Palace's guards and the close also had its own king and queen in the form of an Elvis impersonator and resident Jill Pettit, who dressed up like Her Majesty.

Christine Manton, who was one of the group of residents that organised the event, said: “We have a very friendly street and three months ago we decided to do something to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday, and the street party was the perfect way to do it.

“It was an amazing day, despite the rain.

"All the children got involved and residents aged one to 101 came to the party.

"We all enjoyed it and we finished off the day by watching the European Championships on a giant screen, which was lovely.

“I would encourage more people to throw a street party because these memories will now be passed on to our children, and acting like a community is something people don’t often see nowadays.”

All the money raised from the event will be donated to children’s charities this month.
