RESIDENTS across the borough will be going to the polls to vote in the EU referendum today, Thursday.
A range of polling stations have been set up and will be open from 7am to 10pm.
Although voting will close at 10pm, the result of the historic vote will not be known until breakfast time tomorrow, Friday.
The polls suggest the result could still go either way.
Labour MP for Leigh Andy Burnham is adamant that Britain should remain in the European Union while Chris Green, Conservative MP for Bolton West, which covers Atherton, is firmly in the Brexit camp.
Residents going to vote do not need to take their polling card with them but doing so could make the process quicker.
