HOWE Bridge Leisure Centre’s new skate school will be officially opened by former world inline skating champion Jenna Downing tomorrow, Saturday.

The 2008 LG Action Sports world champion will share her staking skills and experience in a free taster session at the state-of-the-art skate park in Atherton from 10am.

Also suitable for BMXs and scooters, the skate park forms part of the centre’s adventure zone, a bespoke skating, climbing and play facility offering junior fitness classes and sport sessions to encourage high levels of physical activity.

It will offer a skating programme delivered in partnership with Jenna’s company, Wheels Extreme CIC, and taught by a team of professional extreme athletes.

Pete Burt, managing director of Inspiring healthy lifestyles, which manages the leisure centre on behalf of Wigan Council, said: “The skate school is an exciting addition to the fantastic facilities at Howe Bridge Leisure Centre.

“Jenna is a wonderful advocate for girls and women in extreme sport and I am delighted that we have secured the partnership with Wheels Extreme CIC to deliver the programme.

"Who knows, we may just produce the next world inline skating champion.”

The programme will run for eight weeks from Saturday, July 2, with five-year-old to 16-year-old girls only sessions from 10.15am to 11.30am and mixed sessions from 11.30am to 12.15pm.

Booking is advisable. Call 01942 870403 or visit howebridge.org to find out more.
