A CARING 10-year-old girl is sacrificing her beautiful long locks to help children with cancer.

Olivia Daly, of Peace Street, Astley, is having seven inches of her hair cut off in front of her teachers and classmates at a Tyldesley Primary School assembly this Friday, July 1, in aid of the Little Princess Trust charity.

It will be made into a wig for a child suffering hair loss due to cancer treatment and Olivia has also raised more than £430 for the charity in less than a month through her kind gesture.

She has set herself the target of raising £500 via her JustGiving page.

Proud mum Lyndsey Daly, 33, said: “She came to me a few weeks weeks ago and said that she wanted to help poorly children.

“I didn’t want her to get her hair cut but I couldn’t say no.

“She is a very caring little girl who is always thoughtful of others.

"It’s a brave thing to do and I’m so proud of her."

Lyndsey is manager of the Tyldesley Sure Start Children’s Centre on Poplar Street.

She added: “With my job I have seen children in many difficult situations.

"Olivia knows people who have been poorly and I think that had an impact on her decision.

"The fact that she is so young and wants to do this makes me really emotional. She's amazing."

Debra Lingard, associate headteacher at Tyldesley Primary School, said: "It's a very brave and thoughtful thing to do to support a worthwhile cause.

"We are very proud of Olivia for thinking of others and for bringing the Little Princess Trust to the forefront of people's minds."
