A POP-UP stall offering health and lifestyle advice is coming to Leigh Market.

It is part of a four-week campaign to make Wigan Council services more accessible and visible to the public.

The stall will be open between 9am and 3.30pm from Monday to July 29 and will offer residents the chance to receive a free NHS health check, sign up to Lose Weight Feel Great and generally find out more about how to be healthier and fitter in their daily life.

Stuart Cowley, director for adult social care and health at the council, said: “We want to help our residents understand what changes they can make in their day-to-day life to become healthier and fitter, no matter how big or small.

“Our way of doing this is by physically bringing our services and knowledge to residents.

“Although the stall is only open for four weeks, we want the impact to be long term and we are aiming to do this by ensuring residents know who they can contact should they have any questions about their health and wellbeing in the future.

“We feel that by bringing this service directly to the people of Leigh and engaging with them more personally, they will be more likely to pursue our advice in the future.

“The stall will be right in the heart of the market and will be difficult to miss when you are out and about.

“If you can’t make it during the week then don’t worry because the stall will have an information stand with all relevant contact details.”

A range of lifestyle services aimed at identifying health issues early and supporting people to lose weight, stop smoking, reduce alcohol intake, increase physical activity and stay independently and safely in their homes for longer have been invited to promote what they have on offer.

These include Health First, Care and Repair, Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles, HealthyRoutes and Alzheimer’s Society, among many more.

Residents will also be able to see if they qualify for the AWARM programme, which supports residents to have warmer, healthier homes.
