ASH Tree House opened its doors to the public on national Care Home Open Day to 'develop relationships across generations'.

Staff and residents gave visitors an insight into what life is like at the Hindley care home on June 17.

They enjoyed a party with a vocalist and guitarist, took part in a Mexican wave moving up the country throughout the morning and tucked into a special buffet.

Residents Kenneth Heyes and Brian Wilson made the most of the weather by planting an English rose bush in the gardens to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

It was all part of a UK-wide initiative to help create lasting links between care home residents and their communities.

Home manager Kathryn Disley said: “Events like this are all about breaking down the barriers between care homes and the community by connecting people.

“At Ash Tree House we are really keen to develop relationships across the generations.

"Our residents have so much to share. We could all learn a thing or two from them.

“We love a celebration and whenever we get the chance for a party, we make the most of it.”

Other events planned at the care home, which opened in 2013 and provides residential and dementia care for 60 residents, include a seafood-themed pop-up restaurant on July 15 and a summer fair in August.
