A MAN from Leigh has been arrested as part of an investigation into cash machine attacks in England and Scotland.

The 34-year-old is one of eight men arrested as part of a joint investigation by the Titan north west regional organised crime unit and Police Scotland following nine attacks on ATMs between February 2015 and January.

He was arrested yesterday, Tuesday, by Titan detectives while serving time in prison for another offence.

Six of the other men are from Merseyside and one is from Birmingham.

The attacks took place in Reading, Cheshire, Gloucester, Thames Valley, Wiltshire, Aberdeenshire, Merseyside and Perth in Scotland and involved either explosions to get at the cash or premises being burgled and ATMs being dragged outside using a car and a rope and then being driven away.

All eight men are currently in police custody.
