POLICE have arrested two women after a man died following an 'altercation' in Leigh on Sunday.

Detectives say they are treating the death of the 46-year-old as 'unexplained' but have arrested a 38 and a 24-year-old on suspicion of murder.

They are currently being quizzed by police.

The man is believed to have suffered injuries at an address on Leigh Road.

He was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital, where he died at around 9.30pm.  A police spokesman said: "The results of a home office post-mortem examination were inconclusive and further tests are currently ongoing to determine whether or not the injuries are linked to his death, which is currently being treated as unexplained."

Detective Inspector Paul Rollinson, of Greater Manchester Police’s Wigan borough, said: “The investigation is at a very early stage and our enquiries are ongoing.

“If anybody has any information that they think may assist us, particularly about an altercation on Leigh Road earlier that day, then I would urge them to please come forward.”

Anybody with information should contact the CID office at Wigan on 0161 856 7292 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
