POLICE have arrested a third person on suspicion of murder after a man died in Leigh.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on Thursday and subsequently bailed until September following the death of a 46-year-old man last Sunday.

Detectives say they are treating the death as ‘unexplained’ and had previously arrested two women, aged 38 and 24, on suspicion of the murder.

The two women have since been released on bail until September 12.

The women were arrested on Monday after the 46-year-old died following an 'altercation' on Leigh Road where it is reported that he suffered injuries.

Paramedics were called to another location in Leigh later that day, at 7.30pm, after his condition had deteriorated.

They then took him to the Royal Bolton Hospital, where he died around two hours later.

Detective Inspector Paul Rollinson, from Greater Manchester Police’s Wigan borough, said: “The investigation is at a very early stage and our enquiries are ongoing.

“If anybody has any information that they think may assist us, particularly about an altercation on Leigh Road earlier that day, then I would urge them to please come forward.”

The man's family has been notified and police have confirmed that a post-mortem examination has been carried out.

A police spokesman said: "The results of a home office post-mortem examination were inconclusive and further tests are currently ongoing to determine whether or not the injuries are linked to his death, which is currently being treated as unexplained."
