A SCAFFOLDING company is being investigated following allegations that it has left rubble from a 2013 fire containing asbestos piled up in a corner of its yard.
Wigan Council says it is looking into safety concerns regarding Pennine Scaffolding's Millingford Industrial Estate in Golborne.
It has been claimed that the company did not dispose of the potentially-hazardous waste properly following the fire and that workers have been at risk of breathing in asbestos fibres.
The council says its environmental health team will check for any asbestos at the site and if they find any will remove it following the correct safety procedures.
Paul Barton, assistant director for environmental services at the council, said: “Following a site visit to Pennine Scaffolding we are now in the process of investigating this issue further and will be working with the land owner to ensure a speedy resolution to this problem.”
Pennine Scaffolding did not wish to comment when contacted by the Journal.
