FIREFIGHTERS had to cut a man out of his car following a collision with a heavy goods vehicle.

The car, which is believed to be a Peugeot, and the HGV collided on Coupland Road in Hindley Green at around 11.45am on Friday.

Fire crews from Atherton and Hindley and an increased rescue unit from Leigh attended the scene, where the man was cut from the car using special cutting equipment.

The man and two other people who sustained minor injuries were taken to hospital to be treated.

Coupland Road was closed at both ends but later reopened.

The fire crews were at the scene for around an hour.
