HOSPITAL bosses have again urged residents to only go to Wigan's Royal Albert Edward Infirmary accident and emergency department for if their condition is serious or life-threatening.
The A&E department is struggling to cope with the volume of patients being admitted.
It has been a particularly busy week for the hospital and the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the borough's hospital, is warning that anyone going to A&E for non-emergency treatment faces the prospect of waiting more than four hours before being seen by a doctor.
more than a four-hour waiting time.
A spokesman for the trust said: “If you do attend and your condition is not considered serious you will be expected to wait until a doctor is available to see you, which is likely to be outside the four-hour waiting time.”
