TRIBUTES have been paid to the owner of a well-known fabric shop who has died following a short battle with cancer.
Joan Weir, of Windsor Avenue, Astley, died at the age of 63 on September 21 – just six-and-a-half weeks after being diagnosed with the killer disease.
Her sister Rita said: “Joan was one of the most selfless people you could ever meet, very compassionate and empathetic with people.”
She owned the popular Joan Weir Fabrics on Church Street, Atherton, which opened in 1989.
Her funeral will be held at St Richards Church in Atherton from 10am tomorrow, Friday, followed by a service at Howe Bridge Crematorium.
