PEOPLE in Leigh have become creative as a means of helping recovery from drug and drink misuse.
Expression Leigh is a creative workshop that allows participants to turn their stories of addiction into inspiring dance, by using movement to show how they triumphed over years of drug and alcohol misuse.
The workshop is supported by professional dance company Fallen Angels, which encourages former addicts to use music, writing and art as a way to share their personal experiences of addiction and recovery.
Expression Leigh is funded by Inspiring Healthy Lives, with support from Turnpike and Trust, to enable people in recovery to support each other, improving self-esteem and confidence while reducing social isolation.
Expression Leigh is a joint initiative of Cartwell Arts, Fallen Angels and the Wigan & Leigh Recovery Partnership, which is delivered by leading substance misuse treatment and mental health charity Addaction alongside Greater Manchester West NHS Trust.
Expression Leigh meets on Fridays at the Turnpike Gallery from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
