THIS week we take a look back at a picture of a long-lost row of cottages in Leigh.
The photograph of Malley’s Row on Westleigh Lane was taken by Joan Symanowski.
Located over the road from Westleigh High School, near St Paul’s Church, the cottages were built in 1785 and were demolished in the 1960s.
Former Malley’s Row residents include fireman Leigh Farrington, his 12-year-old son James Farrington and their neighbour Peter Pemberton, who were all killed in a firedamp explosion at the Lovers Lane Colliery on March 28, 1872.
If you have a photograph you would like us to use in Look Back at Leigh, send it to newsdesk@leighjournal.co.uk with your name, address and a daytime telephone number, plus details of when the picture was taken and what it shows.
