BUSWAY bosses are trialling a new service to and from the Leigh Sports Village to encourage more sporting fans to visit the town.

First Manchester will be starting the trial Vantage Busway service this Tuesday, October 18, which will run to and from the sports village for the Manchester United under 23s game against Liverpool FC.

The aim of the proposed plan is to allow more sporting fans to visit the town and support the football stars of tomorrow.

The special trips will be numbered SV1 and will run the normal route of the Vantage V1 service from Manchester City Centre, through Salford, past the Park and Ride, and along the Guided Busway to Leigh.

The service will then continue to Leigh Sports Village, arriving at 6:29pm just in time for the 7pm kick off, it will then return from Leigh Sports Village after the game at 9pm.

Dwayne Wells, commercial development manager at First Manchester, said: “We have been working with Leigh businesses and the Sports Village to provide solutions to encourage more visitors to the town, and we are therefore proud to be trialling this new service.

“Our Vantage service continues to grow in popularity, with nearly one million customer journeys now completed, since the launch.

“Our aim is to continue to develop this premium service, so we look forward to welcoming customers on board, for Tuesday’s match.”

Simon Toon, chief executive at Leigh Sports Village, added: “Leigh Sports Village is delighted that First Manchester has offered this Vantage service for visiting spectators to the stadium.

“It allows visitors to the stadium, to travel with ease, experiencing the high quality service offered by the guided bus way.”

The usual range of Vantage tickets can be purchased and used on the service - including the popular £4.20 FirstDay ticket, which offers unlimited travel on all Vantage and First Manchester buses for the whole day.
