ATHERTON Park was cordoned off after reports that a woman was raped.

Police were called to Atherton Park at around 6.30am on Saturday where they discovered the woman in her 20s who had been attacked.

An investigation is now under way and police are still carrying out enquiries at the park.

Detective Constable Lynsey Watson-Perry, from Greater Manchester Police’s Leigh borough, said the attack is being ‘treated as an isolated incident’.

She said: “Specially trained officers continue to offer their support to the victim whilst detectives are working in the area to gather further information.

“This is being treated as an isolated incident and I would ask anyone who saw anything to do with it to please contact police.”
