THIS photograph of a southern hawker dragonfly is our picture of the week.

It was taken by stay at home dad-of-two Richard Nuttall, of Argyle Street, Hindley, who has been an amateur photographer for more than 30 years.

The 50-year-old said: “I am really happy with this picture because dragonflies are notorious for not landing very much, so when this one did I took around 16 pictures and this was the best.

“I was just in the right place at the wrong time actually because these dragonflies are usually gone at this time of year, but I guess this weather has us all confused.

“I love taking pictures of wildlife and have really got back into my photography in the past seven years after everything switched to digital.”
