AN eight-year-old boy who has diabetes and suffers from a rare insulin allergy was a special guest for the grand unveiling of a new toy store.

Taylor Banks, from Leigh, took part in a trolley dash around Bolton's new The Entertainer toy shop on Thursday.

Working with When You Wish Upon A Star, a charity which plans events for children living with a life-threatening illness, the Market Place Shopping Centre store gave Taylor and Stockport nine-year-old Kaila McCrea, who has cystic fibrosis, a minute to dash round and pick up as many toys as possible – which they then got to keep.

The pair stacked up more than £725 worth of toys in their trolleys.

Taylor is the only person in the country to suffer from the insulin allergy he has and has spent the past six months in hospital.

His mum Gemma Westwell said: “It was nice to do something normal for a little while.

"He had been really looking forward to it. We even did little trolley dashes at home to get used to it.

“He was very excited. All he wanted was Nerf guns.”
