RESIDENTS of Gin Pit village in Tyldesley are 'furious' after their 5ft yellow ghost advertisement was vandalised.

The plywood glow-in-the-dark ghost, which was one of three advertisements for the village’s Halloween and Bonfire Bash this Saturday night, was chained to a railing on the junction of Ley Road and Astley Street.

Resident Tony Finley found it snapped in three pieces on Tuesday.

The 78-year-old said: “We organise this event every year and it is a huge part of our village atmosphere, so we are furious that some individuals feel the need to smash and damage property for no reason.

“They should be ashamed. I put it there myself so it was upsetting to see it in pieces.

“The children in the neighbourhood love our ghost and pumpkin advertisements. I cannot understand why I some people want to ruin that for others.”
