AN ear, nose and throat specialist at Wigan's Royal Albert Edward Infirmary has been shortlisted for the Greater Manchester Clinical Research Awards' Outstanding Contribution gong.

Professor Nirmal Kumar recently became the research network lead specialist in ears, noses and throats (ENT) at the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the borough's hospitals.

He has since arranged the first ENT speciality meetings in Greater Manchester and has been involved in numerous clinical trials over the past five years.

The annual awards are open to all NHS research staff and the winners will be unveiled in a ceremony in Manchester city centre on November 17.
