THE organiser of an annual charity rock festival that had a 'fantastic' turnout and raised more than £1,000 for Wigan and Leigh Hospice is planning to set up more events in the future.

The third annual Skyfest took place at the Sky Bar on Railway Road, Leigh, on October 22.

Rock music lovers were treated to performances by headline act The Catchafters and numerous support acts, including Vera Cruz, Blast Tyrant and Great Reckoning.

The event was held in memory of Leigh man Phil Schofield, who was a prolific fundraiser for Wigan and Leigh Hospice and was a patient there before dying of cancer.

A total of £1,007.50 was raised on the night.

Organiser Jamie Young, 24, of Broom Avenue, Leigh, said: “The success of the night has meant that we now want to put on more events in the future, such as a comedy night in December, to support great charities.

“It was a brilliant event and we had a fantastic turnout. More than 170 people turned up to help us raise vital funds and for a great night of music.

“There was so much support for up-and-coming artists as well as top acts.

“We had a great team this year, which is what made Skyfest III a success. I am so grateful for that.

“I am also grateful that so many awesome bands agreed to take part."
