A ‘KIND-hearted’ boy has been growing his hair for a year in aid of cancer sufferers.

Ten-year-old Owen Waudby of Brentwood Grove, Leigh, will have his now shoulder-length wavy hair shaved off in January.

It will be donated to Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair because of cancer treatment.

The St Joseph's Catholic Primary School pupil is also raising money for the trust and The Christie cancer centre via a JustGiving page set up for his upcoming head shave.

His great granddad and great aunt have both been treated for cancer in recent times.

Owen said: “Being ill is one thing but children having to be reminded of it all the time by having no hair must be particularly hard for them.

"I want to help and I feel proud of myself for helping."

His mum Simone added: “He is such a kind-hearted boy and I could not be more proud of him for doing this.

“He has done things in the past to raise money for charity but I was still shocked when he said he wanted to do this.

“Usually he has his hair close-shaved at the sides, so for him to now have it down to his shoulders is crazy.

"He has become quite protective of his long hair and I think it will be a shock to the system when he goes back to having short hair.”

Owen is appealing for people to make a donation via his JustGiving page.

He said: “It would mean a lot if people could help me to raise as much money as possible for the fight against cancer.

“If other children wanted to do the same thing I would definitely encourage them as it is a nice thing to do."
