A SUPERMARKET worker from Leigh is appealing for help in finding the owner of a Second World War love letter she discovered in a lost property bin.

Stacie Adamson, of Laxey Crescent, stumbled across the 1945 letter at the end of a shift at Asda Leigh Supercentre a fortnight ago.

Addressed to LAC H Hughes, 13 MSU (Torps), Royal Air Force, Ceylon Air Forces, the love letter from Dorothy to her sweetheart Harry tells him about life back home and refers to them getting married once he has returned from the war with Nazi Germany.

It had been in the lost property bin for a week at most.

Stacie, 22, said: “I really want to be able to reunite the letter with Harry.

"It looks well-worn and he has probably carried it around with him for years.

"It has no doubt been to more places than I have in my life, so I immediately knew that I had to get it back to either him or his family.

"I put out an appeal on Facebook and there have been a lot of responses.

“The letter had his forces number on it, so I Googled the information and found footage of him in one of the Calling Blighty films.

"He even refers to Dorothy in it.

"I got in touch with the people running the web page and it is part of a project called A Message Home, which is being organised by the North West Film Archive at Manchester Metropolitan University to find the people in the films.

“So I contacted them and the project organisers have teamed up with me to help find Harry.

"Asda is also supporting my search for him.”

The short films saw servicemen and women stationed in the Far East send personal messages home between April 1944 and April 1946.
