RESIDENTS will have the chance to look through Leigh's First World War military tribunals on Armistice Day tomorrow, Friday.
The Museum of Wigan Life is holding a talk about military tribunals from noon to 1.15pm Military tribunals decided who would be forced to fight and who might be exempt from military service on grounds of employment, dependents, health or conscience.
However most of the records in the UK were destroyed in the 1920s but Leigh’s records survived.
They are now one of the few surviving archives of tribunal records in the country and are unique in the borough.
There is a £2.50 fee for the talk at the museum on Library Street, Wigan, and booking is required.
