SANTA Claus swept into Leigh for a special visit to meet children at a party at Leigh Masonic Hall, Ellesmere Street.

The party was organised by Leigh Rotary Club, which provided the 50 youngsters attending, with lots of fun and games.

Leigh Rotary vice president Brian Mills said: "We managed to get Santa away from his busy day of present wrapping to call in at the party and personally hand out gifts.

"The youngsters spent the afternoon dancing, eating and playing games and were all delighted to receive the presents. Later, they had a feast of chicken nuggets, chips and ice cream."

Mr Mills said following the party, he had a response from an unnamed grandmother who said: “My granddaughter said she had a fabulous time and did not stop talking about it all night or this morning when she went to school. Whilst others said, it was the best party ever."

He added: "There is a lot of hard work that goes into organising the party but that grandmother's comments made it well worthwhile!

"The club is grateful to the directors of the Masonic Hall for their kindness in allowing use of their facilities and to caterer “Marks with Splendour” for providing the food.

In the meantime look out for Santa who will be touring Leigh on his sleigh in the lead up to Christmas - the routes he will take are fully detailed on the Rotary Facebook and website, www. leigh.rotary1285.org
