A SPORT-inspired fundraising walk has been arranged to help fulfil the dream of an 11-year-old boy from Leigh with cerebral palsy who is undergoing treatment for leukaemia.

Ben Robinson’s ambition is to go on holiday with his family to Jamaica.

Leigh Centurions star Dayne Weston set up the Ben's Wish charitable fund in a bid to raise the money needed to make that dream come true.

Ben is a Centurions fan as well as a Manchester City FC supporter and the latest Ben's Wish fundraiser will see walkers travel from one club to the other on Sunday, March 19.

The Home From Home Walk will begin at Leigh Sports Village and end at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.

Several rugby league stars have expressed their support for the event on social media, including Australian superstar Cameron Smith.

A range of rugby league players, including some Centurions, as well as triple amputee war hero and author Andy Reid are expected to take part.

Event organiser Bradley Edwards, 32, said: “It seemed like a nice idea to get everyone together and give us time to have a good chat during the walk.

“Everyone will be there for the same reason and that is to support Ben.”

Graphic designer Bradley has been using his skills to assist the Ben's Wish cause for several months, including developing its Facebook and Twitter accounts.

After becoming immersed in the fundraising efforts, father-of-two Bradley is not surprised the campaign has been highly supported due to the type of character that Ben is.

He said: “Ben is an unreal person. He is just so clever and bubbly – you would not think anything was wrong with him.

“When you talk to him he is always smiling. I think people are embracing the cause because he is an absolute inspiration.

“Ben’s family are also so grateful and humble with all the donations that are coming in for him.”

The Britannia pub on St Helens Road, Leigh, recently collected more than £370 for Ben's Wish.
