AN 'inspirational' care home worker has clinched a top award.
Audrey Appleby, who has worked at Woodlands Atherton for six years, was named Dementia Carer of the Year at the Great North West Care Awards.
The judges said: "Audrey is an inspirational lady who gives true meaning to person-centred care – everything she does is about ensuring that individuals are treated with respect, dignity, compassion and, most of all, love."
Audrey is delighted to have won the award.
The 59-year-old said: “I am so happy to receive this for Woodlands.
"If I can put a smile on people’s faces while helping them feel loved and cared for then I am happy.
"My job is magic."
She has been in care profession from the age of 14 when she helped to run a youth club for Mencap.
Stacey Hope, her manager at Woodlands Atherton, said: "Audrey is an inspiration to everyone and is a shining star in our home.
"We all benefit from the high standard of love and care she provides."
The Atherton care home, on Woodlands Drive, provides care for people with varying stages of dementia.
