A LEIGH motorist caught drink driving for the third time in a decade has been banned for five years and given a suspended four-month prison sentence.

Christian Best, of Firs Lane, was more than four times over the limit when driving a vehicle on Platt Fold Road in October.

The 31-year-old had 52mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, with the legal limit being 35mg.

He pleaded guilty to drink driving at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

The court handed Best a prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, due to it being his third drink driving offence in a 10-year period.

Magistrates said 'road users need protection from him' as they imposed the five-year driving ban.

Best was also ordered to carry out a six-month course to tackle his alcohol dependency and must pay a £115 victim surcharge and prosecution costs of £85.
