A BUDDING sports coach is celebrating after securing a scholarship at Wigan and Leigh College.
Joe McDonough, who is studying for a level three diploma in sport, has been granted financial support for his course based at Leigh Sports Village.
The 17-year-old, who hopes to establish a career in sports coaching after completing his studies, said: “I applied for the scholarship to help me with my studies in sport.
"I joined the college due to its facilities, teaching and vast opportunities.
"The scholarship will enable me to continue working hard during my last year of college and also as I plan to join the college’s foundation degree in sports coaching this September, which is awarded by the University of Central Lancashire.
"I would really recommend any student at the college to apply for a scholarship.”
Michelle Fisher, assistant principal at Wigan and Leigh College, said: “The introduction of scholarships has already provided a number of students studying in a wide range of subjects with an opportunity to excel in their studies.
"Joe, like many of our scholarship students, is an exemplary learner with an excellent attendance record and positive attitude towards his studies.”
