A WOMAN was left ‘shocked and terrified’ after a brick hit her car windscreen while she was driving.

Sarah Masters, of Schofield Lane, Atherton, says she is lucky to be alive and is pleading with anyone who knows the yob responsible for throwing the brick to contact police.

The 27-year-old trainee solicitor said: “I just don’t understand what goes through someone’s mind to throw a brick at a moving car.

"It could have had fatal consequences if the windscreen had smashed and I had not been able to keep control of my vehicle and crashed into someone.

"It doesn’t bare thinking about."

The incident happened on the Atherleigh Way bypass as Sarah drove home from visiting family in Leigh at about 8.10pm on Wednesday.

She was travelling at around 40mph when the brick hit the windscreen.

Sarah added: “I managed to keep control of the car but I was shocked and terrified and it really put me on edge.

“When I spoke to the police I was a bit tearful, but it could have been a lot worse.

“It was quiet and dark and I was concentrating on the road.

"The next thing I knew a brick was coming towards the window. I ducked because it was hurtling towards my head and it hit the windscreen.

“I just hope the person responsible understands the possible consequences of their actions before there is a fatal incident.

"It is scary and I am going to try to avoid that road at night now.”

Greater Manchester Police confirmed they are investigating the incident.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
