PRIMARY school pupils have taken part in a sponsored skipathon to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Friday's Jump Rope For Heart fundraiser was the culmination of a week of events at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Hindley Green designed to teach pupils about the importance of the heart.

Healthy Hearts Week at the Swan Lane school included sessions focusing on healthy diets and exercise as well as an afternoon tea party for pensioners, where pupils served healthy snacks, tea and coffee and put on a choir performance after being taught about the need to help the wider community.

Wigan Council's school meals provider MetroFresh was invited to the school to speak about the benefits of a well-balanced diet and worked with the children to make fruit kebabs and design snacks.

The week also contained anti-bullying and friendship-themed sessions, as well as a Valentine’s Day disco.
