HIGH school children raising money for a Leigh Centurions fan who has cerebral palsy and is fighting leukaemia have been paid a special visit from one of the Super League club's star players.

Aussie forward Dayne Weston called into St Mary’s Catholic High School in Astley on February 15 to talk to pupils about their fundraising for Ben's Wish.

He set up the charity in a bid to raise enough money for 11-year-old Leigh cancer sufferer Ben Robinson to fulfil his dream of going on a family holiday to Jamaica.

Karen Roberts, assistant head teacher at St Mary’s Catholic High School, said: “When we heard about this touching story our kind-hearted students wanted to help.

“Students created some great ideas to raise money through a variety of ways.

“We had a teddy name guessing game, a chocolate raffle, a book sale and a sponsored read-a-thon.

“Dayne was amazed by the backing of our pupils and will be joining us again soon to collect the total money raised.”
