MORE than 100 apprentices will descend on the House of Commons tomorrow, Tuesday, to showcase the vast range of opportunities that the pub, bar, brewing and casual dining industry offers in training and developing young people.

Emma McKay and Matt Dawson, who work at The Spinning Jenny and Yates in Leigh respectively, are meeting with MPs to talk about their careers.

They are also set to have a bit of fun in challenging the MPs to a participate in a number of activities that showcase the skills learnt in their day-to-day apprentice roles.

Tim Painter, HR director at Stonegate, said: “Emma and Matt are fantastic examples of the many apprentices we employ within Stonegate.

"Our apprenticeship programme is a stepping stone within our award-winning Alberts Theory of Progression career pathway, which has seen hundreds of our employees rapidly progress their careers into pub management, operations and professional support service roles.”

Keith Knowles, chairman of the Pub and Bars industry group, added: “This is an industry where it is not unusual to start in the bar on minimum wage and progress to senior management earning in excess of £100,000.

"For young people career progression in pubs and bars can be rapid, with many progressing to a management role within three years.”
