THE NHS has quashed closure claims made on social media regarding Leigh walk-in centre.
The service based at Leigh Health Centre is run in partnership by the Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and the NHS Wigan Borough Clinical Commissioning Group.
In a joint statement they said: “There are no plans to close the Leigh walk-in centre and it is one of our main urgent care services for residents, providing a convenient alternative to A&E for certain conditions."
Rumours regarding the centre's future have been rife on social media.
It treats minor ailments and illnesses such as cuts and wounds, sore throats and suspected simple fractures, with the centre having X-ray facilities.
Open every day of the week, the centre treated 5,670 people last year, an average of 150 a day.
