NOMINATIONS are now open for this year’s Believe Sports Awards.

The annual borough-wide awards for grassroot sports reward high achieving individual competitors, clubs, coaches and volunteers.

Cllr Jenny Bullen, cabinet member for leisure at Wigan Council, said: “In the Wigan borough we believe that it is very important to recognise individuals, volunteers and clubs who are making such a valuable contribution to sport every day of the year, and now is the time to start nominating them.

“We have a talented and dedicated sporting landscape across the whole borough, with outstanding achievers and committed support for our upcoming stars.

“The Believe Sports Awards provide an opportunity to give them the recognition they deserve and celebrate the talent being developed at grassroots level.”

The categories are Coach of the Year, Club of the Year, Sports Achiever of the Year, Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, The Wilf Brogan Unsung Hero Award, The Changing Lifestyle Recognition Award, Team of the Year, The Martin Lynn Special Contribution to School Sport Award and Sports Apprentice of the Year.

This year’s awards ceremony will take place at Wigan’s DW Stadium on October 6.
