CHILDREN have cleared up litter from around the canal near their school with help from a conservation team.
The Bridgewater Canal clean up was organised after St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School pupil Grace Northcott attended one of Sea Life’s recent beach cleans in Formby. It inspired her to want to tackle environmental issues and get in touch with staff at Sea Life in Manchester to ask for advice on starting canal cleans.
Jenn McDonough, general manager of Manchester Sea Life, said: “We were absolutely thrilled to be contacted by young Grace, who was inspired to take action in her area after attending one of our beach cleans.
“Lending our help and support was a no-brainer.”
Sea Life provided special equipment and gave the pupils at the Leigh school a talk on the importance of conservation.
