FOUR Leigh Harriers made the trip to the Isle of Man to compete in the Isle of Man Easter festival of running at Port Erin.

The event incorporates three races over three days.

Good Friday sees the start of the festival with a 10k road race which starts by the harbour in Port Erin then heads to Port St Marys harbour before returning to Port Erin, finishing near to The Bay Pub were the athletes have the opportunity to replace sweat.

Phil Williams was first in for Leigh running a time of 34.26 sec in 26th place close behind was Dave Smith in 31st place (34.43 sec).

Tom Henders 71st 36.58 sec and Liam Moore 124th 39.20 sec and the team finished in 11th place.

On Saturday the action moved to Peel – a small fishing village .

The Peel Hill race was over a four-mile course with two main climbs and a number of short climbs starting and finishing at The House Manannan on the quayside.

Dave Smith was first in for the Harriers in 34th place in a time of 23.47 sec, Phil Williams 63rd 25.08 sec, Tommy Henders 69th 25.37 sec and Liam Moore 93rs 27.12 sec completing the team who were 14th.

Easter Sunday morning concluded the running with a 5k road race on an out and back course along Douglas promenade.

Dave Smith was first in for the team in 36th place running a time of 16.44 sec, second vet in the race.

Phil Williams was in 51st place in 17.15 sec, Tommy Henders 81st place in 18.04 sec and Liam Moore completed the team in 92nd place in 18.39 sec.

The team came in 12th place.

Dave Smith finished in 28th place over the thee races, Phil Williams 35th, Tommy Henders 60th and Liam Moore 76th.

The Leigh team finished in 10th place over the three races out of 30 completed teams.

The festival concludes with what for many is the highlight of the weekend prize giving and party on Sunday night at the Outback.

This is always a great night and features a disco and the famous beer drinking races.

The Rivington Pike race the oldest fell race in the country took place at Horwich on Saturday attracting a field over over 350 runners.

The race up and down the famous Pike started and finished at the Obelisk - a distance of three miles with a climb of 1000 ft.

Laura Riches led the charge to the top of the Pike winning the prize to the top in the Ladies race, just getting pipped to first place on the mad descent recording a time of 21.14sec, just 12 seconds off first place.

Olivia Stones, in her first Fell Race, ran well showing potential on the fells finishing in 6th place in the women’s race in an time of 23.05 sec.

Marjorie Leigh won the O65 ladies race in a time of 30.51 sec the team winning second place in the ladies race In the Salford 10k on Good Friday Dionne Allen ran a season’s best of 36.07 sec.

Georgina Leck ran a PB of 38.06 sec in her first 10k of the season winning the U23 lady race.
