A MOTHER burst into tears of joy when she bought a life-changing piece of equipment for her daughter who has cystic fibrosis at a fraction of the price she expected to pay.

Stacie Wallace of St Anne’s Avenue, Tyldesley, who has an eight-year-old daughter called Mollie who suffers with the condition, was put in touch with a woman selling an inflatable vest which aids with treatment which she bought for £2,000- £8,000 less than the £10,000 amount she was aiming to raise to buy the equipment which is what it costs brand new.

The inflatable vest, which is not available through the NHS, is a machine made up of two parts; an air pulse generator and an inflatable chest that wraps around the chest and works to loosen mucus from airway walls and make it easier for her to breathe.

Mother-of-four Stacie was alerted to the bargain after her friend Leanne Phoenix was carrying out her first job interview with a woman for a care worker position and mentioned she has a daughter who has cystic fibrosis and was selling a vest as she did not find it comfortable.

Stacie, 27, said: “When I seen the vest I broke down in tears.

“I could not believe how lucky we were.

“Mollie tried the vest on and she started crying her heart out because she really wanted it.

“At first I could not believe it was true because it was such a good price.

“It is really bizarre how it was my friend’s first interview and the vest has come from it.

“Before we got the vest for Mollie we had to give her manual physio at home which she hated as it was very physically draining so this makes her life much easier now.”

At the time mother-of-four Stacie bought the vibrating vest on March 30 she had managed to raise £2,000 after generating £1,400 from a Go Fund Me page she set up in January and £600 from a film night at Botanical Gardens Association in Tyldesley in March.

As well as having a sister, Maisie, six, and brother Max, two, Hindsford C of E Primary School pupil Mollie also has a one-year-old brother, Marley, who has cystic fibrosis and will be able to use the vest when he has grown in size in around two years.

Stacie, who is married to husband Lee, is now raising money to buy toys for child patients on the Rainbow Ward at Wigan Royal Albert Edward Infirmary where Mollie receives treatment and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as well as funding a day trip for her daughter.

Along with her 'amazing' friend Tessa Readwin, Stacie has organised a fun day at Tyldesley Rugby Union Football Club on Monday, May 1 which will include a range of children’s entertainment including bouncy castles, stalls, raffle prizes and a mini-disco.

The event, which runs from 12pm to 8.30pm, costs £3 per person on the door with children under one gaining free entry.
